Distance learning is new to many, and DCS wants to help you through this transition. Here are some of the questions on the minds of many parents. If you have additional questions, we encourage you to get in touch!
Frequently Asked Questions
Teachers and administration have been working countless hours developing a distance learning plan that will best serve our students and support our parents by providing direct online instruction. Our main objective is for students to join virtual classrooms where they will receive daily LIVE instruction and return to a set schedule.
Our teachers have been undergoing training in Zoom and have been developing Learning Management Systems for their individual classrooms. To ensure you have the support you need while making this transition, our teachers will be working to provide you with assistance, especially for families with parents who continue to work in essential businesses away from the home.
Beginning Monday, March 30th, students will be utilizing Zoom, a video conferencing platform that is simple to use. Zoom can be accessed from a computer, tablet, or smart phone. Please download the app if using Zoom from a cell phone or tablet.
All teachers will be posting the links to access their specific meetings on RenWeb and will also be reaching out directly to their students/parents with this information. Students will be required to check in for attendance (8:30 AM: 5K-12th / 9:00AM: 3K-4K) with their homeroom teacher. After check in, teachers will go straight into teaching! Live instruction for 5K-12th Grade students will take place until 11:15 AM (please see Distance Learning Resources for scheduling details).
- Preschool families can expect pre-recorded lessons, each day, for Bible and two subject areas, live instruction and assessments, as well as live reading lessons (4K).
- Elementary school families will have three live classes, each day, for Bible, attendance, and two instructional sessions. Teachers will provide details for assignments for the day and an overview of the learning plan for the week.
- Secondary school students will have live classes in each of their core subjects, with daily instruction and assignments.

Detailed lesson plans will be posted in RenWeb. Lesson plans/homework will match the subject that is being taught on that given day. Work will need to be submitted as usual and teachers will express how they would like that process to look moving forward. Please note, subjects will be taught on alternating days to ensure the course load is manageable for both parent and student.
Elementary enrichment teachers and WHEEL teachers (6th-9th) will continue to post suggested activities/assignments in RenWeb for students to complete during each week. These assignments are optional, but strongly encouraged as they will give students a www.gulfportpharmacy.com chance to tap into their creative side! These assignments will be graded, however students will not be penalized for not completing the assignments.
Secondary elective teachers will continue to provide work/practice assignments via RenWeb. These assignments will be graded and must be submitted by their respective due dates. Elective classes during 5th and 6th period will be taught live via Zoom.
We will return to campus as soon as it is safe for all of our students and staff. At this time, our distance learning plan will continue until May 21, the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. Information regarding a campus reopening date will be forthcoming.
